For a dedicated dry fly rod we like 8'3 4wt for casting accuracy and slicing your bug under tree limbs. Hard to beat this rod when you need to place a your caddis in pinpoint holes. Not built for hoppers or heavy rigs but perfect for the dry fly evangelist, and can.
The 9' 5wt handles bigger dries (hoppers, chubbies etc...) well and is our first choice for technical floats requiring accurate and precise mends. The medium action is able to make subtle mends and keep your flies in the zone. The softer action turns a bit gummy when throwing hopper droppers past 30 feet, but can handle close distance dropper fishing when required. Perfect as a dedicated dry fly rod, with some close range hopper dropper work sprinkled in.
