Trout Spey RodsThese rods are designed to allow anglers to spey cast with lightweight two-handed rods for trout. Most rods that are considered "trout spey" rods are in the 2-5 weight range and are capable of throwing streamers up to size #4 depending on the particular rod and type of shooting head. Most anglers prefer very short Skagit style heads in the 12' range so that they can propel large flies with light rods. Lines such as the OPST Commando Head, RIO Trout Max Shooting Head, Skagit Scout, and more allow the angler to use very lightweight rods and still cast large flies.
