Tip of the Week: Fish a small dry/emerger as a trailing fly to a bigger dry.

Tip of the Week: Fish a small dry/emerger as a trailing fly to a bigger dry.

“I CAN’T SEE MY FLY!” Ever been there?! “If you can’t see it, you can’t fish it.” Not true if you fish a two fly set-up ;-)

You will basically fish this like a dry dropper and drop the smaller fly that you can’t see. Fish the bigger dry that you can see and look for an eat around your bigger dry or for your bigger fly to go down and then SET. THAT. HOOK.

This is a great way to approach most every overlapping hatch that has a small fly / big fly overlap.  Salmon Fly / Caddis Fly or Yellow Sally/PMD(like the video above).  As well, you can fish an adult dun/emerger combo this way to great success.  Just lead with the fly that you can see and drop/trail the emerger or smaller fly that you can't.  The fly that you can see is your indicator.
