The Methow River is one of Washington’s true gems, and our seasonal guide operation gives you exclusive access during the prime window of summer trout fishing. We run float trips during the heart of the season, when the water is just right and the dry fly action is as good as it gets. With stunning scenery and cold, clear water, it’s the perfect setting to experience classic Western trout fishing.
Our guests can expect exciting days targeting native Westslope Cutthroat and wild Rainbows, with fish ranging from eager 10-inchers to bruisers over 20". This is dry fly fishing at its finest—technical, visual, and incredibly rewarding. Due to limited guide availability and a short season, early booking is recommended to lock in your Methow River adventure.
We have isolated specific dates for our "prime time" guide on the Methow, but we can typically accommodate (4) anglers. Please inquire with dallas@redsflyshop.com for multi-boat groups or to request additional dates.
Methow River Guided Trips Include:
- Rocky Gibson - Red's Fly Shop
Our Methow River program is led by one our favorite guides, Rocky Gibson, whose passion for this fishery runs deep. With a family home near the Methow Valley, Rocky has spent countless summers immersed in its waters—both fishing and guiding. It’s more than just a seasonal gig for him; it’s a return to a place that feels like home. His familiarity with the river and its rhythms allows him to put guests in the right water at the right time, all with the calm, confident style he’s known for.
Rocky’s love for the Methow shows in every trip he runs. Whether you’re casting to rising cutthroat in a quiet backchannel or drifting dry flies through a riffle that screams "eat," he brings a genuine enthusiasm and deep knowledge that makes every float a memorable experience. If you’re thinking about a Methow trip this summer, Rocky’s your guy—and the season fills up fast.
"Rocky guided us down the Methow on one of the most scenic floats I’ve ever done. We mixed in some wade fishing on side channels, and I still can’t believe how many cutthroat we moved on dry flies. His knowledge of the river is incredible—felt like we were fishing with a local (because we were haha!)."
– Mike R., Spokane, WA
"This was my first time fly fishing, and Rocky made the whole day approachable and fun. He broke down the basics of casting, mending, and reading water in a way I could actually understand. By the afternoon, I was catching fish on dry flies and totally hooked on the sport!"
– Sarah T., Seattle, WA
"The Methow was low and clear, and Rocky had us drifting slow and sneaky through the pocket water. We waded a couple of beautiful runs that felt like scenes from a magazine. I’ve floated with Red’s before on the Yakima, but this trip had a different vibe—quiet, wild, and absolutely loaded with fish."
– Justin L., Portland, OR
"My son and I booked a float with Rocky and had one of those unforgettable summer days. We landed several cutts and rainbows, learned a ton, and laughed even more. His calm, patient style was perfect for a father-son trip. Can’t wait to do it again next year!"
– Greg H., Wenatchee, WA
"What I appreciated most was how dialed-in Rocky was. He had the bugs, the drifts, and the water figured out. We got out of the boat in a few key spots to hit pocket water and seams that I never would’ve fished on my own. The dry fly fishing was lights out."
– Emily K., Bellingham, WA
