Meet ROCKY GIBSON
Rocky Gibson, naturally called "Rocky," as there is no nickname cooler than his given name, has been a lifelong resident of the Kittitas Valley, where he discovered his passion for fly fishing on the Yakima River near Thorp. Rocky is a full time "summer guide" for Red's and is a STEM teacher at nearby Kittitas High School during the academic year.
Ironically taught by his nephew, usually its uncle Rocky doing the teaching, he has since honed his skills on local waters and has built a career sharing his love for the sport as a guide. His fondest fly fishing memory is watching his daughter, Hannah, land an impressive brown trout on the Clark Fork in Montana—a moment that perfectly captures his joy in seeing others succeed on the water.

Rocky specializes in guiding trips on the Yakima and Methow Rivers, with a particular passion for dry fly fishing. His favorite species to target is the elusive brown trout, and when he’s not guiding, you’ll often find him fishing the Yakima River in quiet solitude—his preferred soundtrack. For Rocky, the ideal client is someone young and inexperienced, eager to learn the ropes. He prides himself on a genuine commitment to ensuring every client not only has a great experience but also walks away with new knowledge to apply on their own fishing adventures.
LONGEVITY AND ADAPTATION
When not on the water, Rocky enjoys life with his wife of 29 years, Bonnie, and their three kids, Hannah, Bailey, and Cade. At home, they’re joined by a lively crew of pets, including a yellow lab named Izzy and four Yorkies—Phoebe, Ella, Fiona, and Clara. Beyond fishing, Rocky is an artist, a talent that surprises many of his clients. His dream trip? Patagonia, in pursuit of big browns. For beginners, Rocky’s top advice is simple yet powerful: “Learn something each time you fish.” With his trusty Roza Tag fly always on hand, Rocky’s goal as a guide is to help clients create lasting memories while enjoying everything the river has to offer.
