Curtis is a guide who thrives on adventure, fueled by his love for fly fishing, hunting, and life on the road. Born in Redding, California, Curtis grew up surrounded by the outdoors, and his journey as an angler began on the Truckee River, where Mike Burgoyne first introduced him to the art of fly casting. Since then, his life has been a story of wanderlust and passion, symbolized by his current home: an Airstream parked wherever the next adventure calls.
Some of Curtis’s fondest memories come from time spent fishing with family, especially the day he watched his grandfather land his first winter steelhead. Moments like these shaped Curtis’s respect for the sport and its ability to create lasting bonds. His professional guiding career began on the Yakima River, where he developed a reputation for creating unforgettable experiences on the water. Over the years, Curtis has guided on iconic waters like the Klickitat River and the winter coastal rivers, honing his expertise across diverse fisheries.

Curtis brings unmatched energy to the boat. Even in tough conditions, he stayed upbeat, kept us motivated, and made constant adjustments to give us the best shot at success. He knows the river inside and out, offers helpful tips without being overbearing, and genuinely seems to love what he does. A top-tier guide and a great person to spend a day on the water with.

"Curtis was the complete package—professional, knowledgeable, and a ton of fun!"
We had an incredible day on the water with Curtis and his co-pilot, Ryder (his awesome river dog). Curtis was patient, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable—not just about the fishing, but how to create a memorable experience. He made my wife, a first-time fly fisher, feel totally comfortable and confident, and by the end of the day, we were both catching fish and having a blast.
Curtis's customer service was top-notch from start to finish, and his understanding of the river made all the difference. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide (or boat dog). We'll absolutely be back—and we’ll definitely be requesting Curtis and Ryder again!

“Incredible guide, even better human.”
Curtis taught my 10-year-old son how to fly fish, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the look on his face when he landed his first trout. Curtis was kind, patient, and full of encouragement the entire day. He’s not just a guide—he’s a teacher and a motivator. We made some real memories that day, and I can’t wait to do it again.

“Our go-to guide on the Yakima.”
We’ve fished with Curtis several times now, and he’s become our preferred guide at Red’s. He works hard to put us on fish, tailors his instruction to our skill level, and always brings a positive, energetic vibe to the boat. He’s not afraid to row back for another shot at a good drift, and somehow he makes grilled pork chops taste even better riverside. Already looking forward to next fall’s float.

“An anniversary to remember.”
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a guided float, and Curtis made it special. He was patient, personable, and incredibly helpful—walking us through casting, reading water, and setting up drifts. We even took what we learned and caught fish on our own later that evening. That’s the kind of day you never forget. Huge thanks to Curtis and Red’s for making it happen.

When he’s not guiding, Curtis is likely chasing chukars in rugged terrain or working on improving his golf game. His dog, Ryder, is his loyal companion, adding a playful spirit to Curtis's life both on and off the river. Curtis’s ideal client is someone willing to embrace the unconventional—like tossing a squirmy dry fly—and enjoys exploring creative approaches to fishing. He’s most passionate about dry-dropper setups, appreciating their versatility and the thrill they bring to trout fishing.
Curtis dreams big, whether it’s pursuing sea-run brown trout in distant waters or sharing a meal with comedian Theo Von. He believes in living boldly, evidenced by his philosophy on guiding: “Rods are built to bend.” He encourages beginners to embrace the process, trust their gear, and focus on the joy of the sport.
As a guide, Curtis’s "superpower" lies in his ability to connect with his guests through humor, patience, and a genuine love for fishing. He hopes every guest walks away with memories of a fun, enriching experience and a deeper appreciation for the wild places that make fly fishing so special.
If you’re looking for a guide who can show you the best of the river while keeping things light-hearted and adventurous, Curtis is your guy.
