Designed for those who have completed our beginner and intermediate courses, this class focuses on technical skills like double haul casting, advanced roll casting, tying loop knots, line splicing, and DIY leader modifications.
Our instructor will tailor the course to your specific needs, interests, and upcoming fishing adventures, whether you’re preparing for a bucket-list trip, refining your presentation for technical waters, or learning advanced tactics for specific species. This hands-on course is designed for anglers looking to fish smarter, improve their presentation, and gain better control over their setup. Whether you're gearing up for a guided trip or seeking to elevate your skills for solo adventures, Fly Fishing 301 provides the knowledge and experience to help you succeed.
This is considered a "wet feet" course, meaning students will be in the water, actively applying these skills while wading and fishing. With a 50% instruction, 50% fishing format, the emphasis is on mastering new techniques, making precise adjustments, and building confidence in real-world conditions. Take your fly fishing skills to the next level with Fly Fishing 301! This course is designed for anglers who have mastered the basics and are ready to refine their techniques for better control, precision, and success on the water. The class begins with a one-hour session at Red’s Fly Shop, where you'll dive into advanced techniques and rigging strategies. Then, you'll hit the Yakima River for 2.5 hours of guided wade fishing, applying what you've learned under expert coaching.
What You’ll Learn:
- Intermediate to Advanced Casting Techniques – Improve accuracy, distance, and control.
- Roll Casting on the Water – Master essential casts for tight spaces and tricky drifts.
- Mending & Presentation – Achieve a drag-free drift for a more natural fly presentation.
- Strike Indicator & Two-Fly Rig Setup – Learn to build and fine-tune effective nymphing rigs.
- Advanced Knots & Line Management – Master the Non-slip Mono Loop, Triple Surgeon’s Knot and other key connections.

Deposit and Cancellation Policy
Once a reservation is made we are fully committed to you and have lost the opporuntity to offer the space to other anglers. Cancellations for Fishalong Adventures less than 14 days from the outing will forfeit the course fee or the University Credit used to register. Cancellations more than 14 days from the outing will forfeit 5% of the course fee, University enrolled students can re-book into a later date. Red's Fly Shop has the sole authority to cancel adventures based on conditions.
Cancellations for Casting Classes less than 48 hours from the class will forfeit the course fee or the University Credit used to register. Cancellations more than 48 hours from the Casting Class will forfeit 5% of the course fee, University enrolled students can re-book into a later date.
Tuition payments and course credits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
