BELIZE TARPON AND PERMIT

Stepping into the world of El Pescador Lodge means diving straight into one of the most legendary saltwater fly‑fishing destinations on the planet. Located on Ambergris Caye, just a short 15‑minute domestic flight from Belize City followed by a 10‑minute boat ride, this lodge has earned its reputation as a premier base for chasing tarpon, permit, and bonefish across a vast stretch of Caribbean flats. Known throughout the fly‑fishing world for its quality, comfort, and long‑standing history, El Pescador offers anglers access to an unbelievably rich fishery—one where mature tarpon from 30 to 150+ pounds, seasonal permit, and abundant bonefish all share the same turquoise waters. The week hosted by World Fly LLC is intentionally timed to coincide with peak tarpon migration, putting guests in the best possible position to encounter the giants of the species.

But the magic of this adventure reaches far beyond the bow of the panga. El Pescador combines a laid‑back Caribbean vibe with thoughtful service, comfortable accommodations, a pool, spa, beach access, and activities for non‑anglers—all surrounded by warm water, white sand, and Belize’s famously welcoming energy. Guests fish with seasoned guides who not only know the tides, sun angles, and rhythms of the flats, but also excel at reading each angler and shaping every day to match expectations and skill level. Whether you’re hunting your first tarpon, chasing the elusive permit, or simply soaking in the beauty of Belize—snorkeling, exploring Mayan ruins, or relaxing under the palms—this trip delivers that unforgettable blend of adventure and ease that has made El Pescador one of the most sought‑after lodges in the Caribbean.

A Special Fishery

Fishing at El Pescador Lodge puts anglers in the heart of one of the most productive and diverse saltwater fisheries in the Caribbean, with daily opportunities to target tarpon, permit, bonefish, and a host of other species across miles of shallow flats, mangrove edges, and deeper tarpon basins. The lodge intentionally schedules summer trips around the arrival of mature migrating tarpon, powerful fish ranging from 30 to over 150 pounds, while still offering excellent seasonal shots at permit and plentiful bonefish nearby. Anglers fish from classic panga‑style skiffs with elevated casting decks and experienced, English‑speaking guides who specialize in reading tides, light angles, and the subtle movements of fish across the flats. This range of species and environments means each day brings something new—whether scanning for rolling tarpon, spotting tailing permit on firm sand flats, or picking off bonefish on turtle grass and soft corals.

THE FISHING!

A typical day begins with an early breakfast before meeting your guide at the dock, loading a cooler with lunch, and heading out for eight hours of guided fishing tailored to the day’s tides and weather. You might start on the bonefish flats just minutes from the lodge, then run farther to tarpon water where depths of three to eight feet are ideal for intercepting rolling fish. Throughout the day, guides position the skiff for the best shots, adjusting strategy as light changes—poling skinny water for permit, probing mangrove edges for snook, or staking out on deeper edges for cruising tarpon. With constant communication and expert local knowledge, guides help you choose the right fly, line weight, and presentation for each scenario. After returning to the lodge in the afternoon, guests often enjoy casting lessons on the dock, a dip in the pool, or a cold drink overlooking the Caribbean before dinner—wrapping up a day that blends world‑class flats fishing with the easy, inviting rhythm of island life.

“I’ll never forget the morning my guide quietly pointed to a shadow sliding down the flat, and a few heartbeats later I watched a tarpon the size of a small refrigerator cartwheel through the air with my fly in its mouth—one of those wild, perfect moments that makes you grin every time you think about it.”

SINGLE ANGLERS WELCOME

Single anglers are always welcome on our worldwide hosted fly fishing trips, and we take great care in pairing guests to ensure a fun and rewarding experience. We’ll match you with a roommate and assign you a fishing partner for each day on the water, sometimes keeping pairs consistent and other times rotating to give everyone a well-rounded experience. Many solo travelers join our trips because we have a strong track record of fostering a great group dynamic, mixing anglers and guides to create an enjoyable atmosphere for all. While we strive to accommodate individual preferences, flexibility is key, as our primary goal is to rotate guide assignments and maximize opportunities for every guest. We simply ask our single anglers to embrace the adventure, go with the flow, and enjoy the incredible fishing!

TESTIMONIALS FROM THE EL PESCADOR LODGE TRIPS

“There was this one evening when the light went flat and I thought the day was done, and then out of nowhere a school of bonefish slid onto the sand patch in front of us and I watched my line come tight so gently it almost felt like a trick, but that run—man, that first run—reminded me exactly why I fly fish in the first place.”

Aaron T.

“I keep thinking back to the moment my guide eased the panga along a mangrove edge and whispered ‘get ready,’ and before I could even process it a tarpon rolled twenty feet off the bow and I somehow made the cast, felt the line rip through my fingers, and just started laughing because it was all so chaotic and perfect at the same time.”

Melissa R.

“I didn’t expect it, but my most vivid moment came during a quiet stretch of the afternoon when we drifted over a turtle‑grass flat, and a pair of big tarpon suddenly materialized like ghosts under the boat, and even though I only got one quick shot, watching those fish glide in that clear water is something I’ll replay in my mind for years.”
