I'll admit it... I'm probably not the person you'd expect to be reviewing a women's hiking boot.
I tried convincing my wife to do this review, but she had absolutely no interest in being on camera. Since I've watched these boots carry her through countless hikes, scouting trips, and mountain adventures over the last season, I figured I could share her experience instead.
My wife isn't a hunter, but she spends plenty of time in the mountains with me. What usually starts as a relaxing hike on a Forest Service trail somehow turns into a "quick" detour to the next ridge or saddle so I can scout for hunting season.
Like a lot of women, she's struggled to find hiking boots that truly fit. Traditional hiking boots often felt too wide, allowing her feet to slide around, while trail runners left her feet sore and beat up after long days on rocky terrain.
She wanted something lightweight, supportive, and comfortable enough that she wasn't counting the minutes until she could take them off.
That's exactly where the Crispi Women's Altitude has shined.
One of the biggest advantages of the Women's Altitude is that it isn't simply a smaller men's boot. It's built on a women's-specific last, creating a narrower, more secure fit through the heel and midfoot while still leaving plenty of room in the toe box.
That combination has made a huge difference.
Her foot stays planted without sliding around inside the boot, and even on long downhill descents she hasn't dealt with her toes jamming into the front of the boot.
She's wearing a size 40 paired with the Superfeet Hike Women's insoles, and it's been an excellent combination for all-day comfort.
At just 1.4 pounds per boot, the Women's Altitude is impressively lightweight.
That doesn't mean it sacrifices support.
For day hikes, scouting trips, and rugged mountain terrain, it provides enough stability to keep your feet feeling fresh without the bulk of a heavy backpacking boot.
It's become the boot she automatically reaches for whenever we're heading into the mountains.
Most of our hiking happens from spring through fall, although we've certainly found ourselves hiking through rain, mud, creek crossings, and even some snow.
The waterproof construction has kept her feet dry, while the synthetic tongue provides noticeably better breathability than many traditional leather boots.
If you're constantly moving rather than sitting and glassing for hours in freezing temperatures, the balance between waterproof protection and ventilation is excellent.
After a full season of hiking and scouting, these boots have seen plenty of miles.
The tread shows honest wear, but the overall construction has held up extremely well. The stitching remains solid, and aside from a small amount of rubber delamination near the toe—which is fairly common on many hiking boots after extended use—the boots continue to perform exactly as they should.
Considering the abuse they've seen on rocky trails, that's an impressive result.
The Crispi Women's Altitude is an excellent choice for women who want:
It's especially well suited for hikers who find trail runners too soft but don't need the weight or stiffness of a full backpacking or mountaineering boot.
More than anything, these boots have simply made hiking more enjoyable.
Instead of dealing with sore feet or constantly adjusting uncomfortable footwear, my wife can focus on enjoying the trail—even when my "easy hike" unexpectedly turns into a scouting mission several miles off the beaten path.
If you're looking for a lightweight, supportive hiking boot that offers a true women's fit and all-day comfort, the Crispi Women's Altitude deserves a serious look. It's been our bestselling women's boot for a reason, and after watching these perform over an entire season, it's easy to understand why.
