Tip of the Week: Mend More!

Tip of the Week: Mend More!

If you have been out on a guided trip, the one word that comes out of the mouth of the guide the most is hopefully... "SET!"  But, most likely is "Mend."  We must mend our line so our flies drift naturally like the real thing.

Mending is one of the most important parts of line management. With an indicator, it is even more important as the surface current speed is faster than the current near the bottom where we get our fish with nymphs. Many anglers mend but we are encouraging you to mend more. Every time you do a proper mend, you are putting your nymphs at desired depth you want to fish. Even if it doesn’t look like your indicator is dragging you are most likely experiencing micro-drag. Micro drag will pull your flies up 1-2 feet. Attempt to mend a couple more times each drift when you are out and we bet you see more fish 👍

We teach this and many other tips in all of our FISHALONG Courses.

SUMMARY:

Bottom line, double the amount of times you are mending with an indicator to stay at the depth you desire.  Don't forget, 80% of a fish's diet is underneath the surface;-)
