TIP OF THE WEEK: Line Management (Loop Slack)

TIP OF THE WEEK: Line Management (Loop Slack)

“How much line should we have at our hands when fishing?”

Our TIP OF THE WEEK this week is discussing how much line of slack we should manage coming from our reel to our trigger finger(I call this “loop slack”). Once we can cast 40 feet consistently and know how to read the water to find the fish, it becomes all about line management.

If we have no loop slack or too little we will not have the ability to give line when mending, feeding and fighting fish. If we have too much loop slack we will get sloppy and be tempted to work more line than we should.

TIP OF WEEK: I’m suggesting to keep 5-6 feet of loop slack while fishing. Note that this means after the cast is made 😉

We teach this and many other tips in all of our FISHALONG Courses.

SUMMARY:

Anglers need to keep 5-6 feet of slack in between the reel and our trigger finger.
