The Perfect Bonefish Setup for Christmas Island

While you don't have to mimic this exact rig, this is a great setup to model your setup around. A reel with a sealed drag is important as you'll be wading a lot and it's likely your reel takes a dunk and has exposure to the sand. The ideal fly line is quick loading and still delicate for the large groups of bones, or big cruising singles. 

Christmas Island requires a variety of Christmas Island Specials in different weights and sizes depending on the depth of water you are fishing and the tides. You want a setup that is quick loading as sometimes the casts are short and schools of bones can sneak up on you. 

Because of the clear water a pure Fluorocarbon is best. We like a 12# leader as many of the Bonefish that are cruising are big and there is coral that can cut lighter leader.
