Hatches Upcoming and Current:
The Caddis Hatch absolutely blew up last week, but now things are starting to level off—the hatch has lightened, and the trout are a little more selective. Cloudy days are now your best bet for mid-day dry fly success. During the peak, there were so many bugs on the water that it actually made fishing tougher—too much food meant the trout had no reason to move much. That said, it’s still prime time if you play your cards right.
When you find feeding fish, presentation is everything. Splashy rises usually mean they're on emergers—we’ve had great luck with the X-Caddis in those scenarios. For soft sippers in slack water, they’re likely targeting adult egg-layers, so be sure to match the stage. We dropped a video on our YouTube channel with some dialed-in fly suggestions—check the description over there for the exact patterns we're using.
The water is very low right now, which makes for exceptional wading conditions. Wade anglers are having a blast, especially in the Lower Canyon, where trout are tight to the bank—often just a rod tip away. It’s dry-wading season, and short, stealthy presentations into close pockets are the name of the game. It’s technical fishing, but extremely rewarding.
If you want to stack the odds, book a trip with one of our guides. Whether it’s walk-and-wade dry fly work or drifting to the best water by boat, our team will help you make the most of these ideal spring conditions. We’ve got just a few open slots left this week, so give us a call and get on the calendar.
Bring your dry fly rod—and your patience. When it lines up, this hatch delivers.
