Permit are a highly-prized fish for fly anglers.  They are easily spooked, even by your dime-sized crab fly splashing too much upon entry.  We wanted a crab fly that behaved more like a human diver who enters the water with a “rip” and limited noise/splash.  We were able to achieve noticeable results with our unique weight and placement.  The fringe and legs help kick the fly over breaking up the cavitation, which quiets the entry and reduces the splash.  

The legs/claws don’t dry out like the round and square rubber legs do.  They are not soft like silicone, so they hold their shape better when the fly is descending or when swimming the fly.  They are the same width as competing crab legs, but much flatter.  They are even translucent, which makes them more like the real crabs we’re trying to imitate.  

We are not limited to egg yarn or deer hair colors to match the crab colors for your destination.  The mottled colors we offer are great matches for most permit destinations, whether fishing over sand, grass, coral or marl.  As a bonus, our white version can be fished as is or you or your guide can customize it with the colors you need.

We offer this fly in a Heavyweight (approx 1.7 grams) and a Lightweight (approx 1.3 grams) version to best match your needs.  All are tied on the Gamakatsu SL12S Big Game size 2 so you don’t need to worry about the strength/performance of your hook when you come tight to your prize.
