The Klickitat River is located 2.5 hours south of Red's Fly Shop, 4 hours from Seattle, and 2.5 hours from Portland. The nearest towns are Goldendale and Klickitat. The glacial nature of the Klickitat makes summer-time water clarity somewhat unpredictable, so we tend to focus our guiding efforts towards late September - November. This is also the peak of the steelhead run.
July - September during periods of cool weather the Klick can produce great warm weather steelhead fishing. We drift 5 - 12 miles in a day depending on strategy. Nymphing on-the-go generally produces the most hook-ups but we do swing flies with a spey rod as well. It is the angler's choice.
We have been offering multi-day Klickitat River trips since 2006, and have done everything from fancy tent camps to lodges. Over the years we have begun to appreciate the mobilty offered by using a strategically located hotel, good local burgers, and combination trips involving Yakima River Trout, upland bird hunting, and a night or two at Canyon River Lodge in the Yakima Canyon.
Whether you are a local angler sneaking in a quickie or a traveler coming from the east coast to fish 4-5 days, we accomodate all trip lengths starting with a single day. We always encourage you to fish multiple days to help insure you get a window of optimal conditions.
Lodging and Multi Species Adventures
Combining your Klickitat River Steelhead trip with a day or two of trout fishing on the Yakima River or upland bird hunting is easy. Book a night at a motel in Goldendale, WA for the night(s) before and/or after you book your steelhead trip. You can also book nights at Canyon River Lodge here with us for the days/nights you plan to trout fish or bird hunt.

We are unapologetic about proclaiming the prowess and professionalism of our fly shop staff and guides. Between our shop staff and subcontractor guides we have approximately 30 team members. Their blend of ambition, competitiveness, kindness, fishing skill, work ethic, and patience are like no crew we've ever seen. Our staff is the ultimate team. This means teaching each other, sharing secret fly patterns, insider fishing reports, and helping our other guides on the river get into more fish.
Red's has been at this for a long time and putting together a franchise like this was no accident. We look for talent, character, unique skills, and a strong sense of "customer first" attitude. We're here to serve the customer. That's our mission.
Cancellations made by the customer less than 72 hours from the start time, will forfeit 50% of the total cost. If you cancel more than 72 hours from the start time, you may reschedule or request a refund minus 5%. Cancellations within 24 hours or failure to show will forfeit 100% of the trip cost. If Red's decides to cancel the event due to adverse conditions the customer may request a full refund.
