Meet ASHTYN HARRIS

Ashtyn Harris is one of Red's Fly Shop's awesome women guides and a dedicated instructor for many of the shop's fly fishing courses. Originally from Bakersfield, California, Ashtyn now calls Ellensburg, Washington, home. She lives there with her husband and their dog, Bomba, who occasionally tags along on her fishing adventures.

Ashtyn’s fly fishing journey began at 19, learning from her uncle on the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River. While the lesson was more laughter than instruction, it sparked a passion that only grew stronger after a solo trip to Idaho's St. Joe River, where she hooked a solid trout and discovered the joy of the sport.

"The outdoors has a way of teaching you patience and perspective—it’s not just about the fish you catch, but the moments you spend immersed in nature. I've spent my entire adult life trying to figure out how to be outside as much as possible!"

VAST OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE

VAST OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE

She has guided on several Washington rivers, including the Yakima, Naches, Cle Elum, Upper Cle Elum, and Teanaway. Ashtyn is most passionate about dry fly fishing and is honing her skills in trout spey. She enjoys guiding clients who are eager to learn and appreciates the opportunity to share her love of fishing.

When she’s not guiding, Ashtyn spends her time traveling, hiking, and exploring her newfound hobby of silversmithing. She also has a surprising talent for operating a chainsaw and tackling outdoor projects.

Ashtyn’s dream trip is to Chilean Patagonia, where she hopes to experience the stunning mountains, incredible cuisine, and Brown Trout that eagerly rise to dry flies. Her go-to trout fly is the Purple Chubby. Her advice to beginners is simple: don’t worry about looking silly—every angler starts somewhere.

If given the chance, Ashtyn would love to share cocktails and cast rods with Joan Wulff, a fly fishing legend whose expertise and grace she deeply admires.
