Feather Hopper - Grasshopper Fly Pattern
One of the tricks to fooling fish here on the Yakima river is to take a look away from what everyone else is using and try a different path. The feather hopper is a great fly to take along with you on your adventures. It has the high floatability of foam for the body, the knotted legs to add realism, and then the feather and fur top which fish do not see as much these days.
If you get any kernel of knowledge out of this short blurb, it's that you should always carry a wealth of patterns. The fish see a lot of the same styles of fly, and mixing it up can and does often result in a successful day of fishing. It's saved my bacon more than once.
