It is no secret that primetime fly fishing for big tarpon in the Florida Keys runs from mid April through early June. The legendary flats guides are booked years out during this coveted season. We have met and fished with these guides who greatly impressed us with not only their knowledge and passion for chasing giant tarpon, but also the quality of gear they use, and high level of client care they give their guests. Red's put down deposits and have secured a pair of fabulous Tarpon guides for these special dates.
Captains Derill and Justin are both highly focused, skilled, and hardworking guides that will impress even the most seasoned saltwater angler. Their state of the art boats are well equipped, with a Spider Cage on the hyper elevated casting deck. This gives the angler a tremendous advantage is both seeing fish and making that once-in-a-lifetime cast count!
We have optimized these slots to capture what we hope are favorable tide windows during the peak run. While the target and focus is to pursue big tarpon, if weather goes to heck (clouds and wind), Derill, Justin, are capable of searching flats for bones and permit or scanning the mangroves for smaller resident tarpon.
The fishing grounds are typically the famed flats around Big Pine. Lodging is conveniently located at Parmer's resort in Big Pine which is walking distance from restaurants and the point of boat pick up and drop off. This is the Cooperstown of big tarpon fishing, and these guides and fishing slots are something Red’s will hang onto for decades to come…

The Red’s host is a liaison between guests and the outfitting destination. The host is there to act as the lead angler on the trip and help ensure that everyone has a great time. Historically, groups operate best when a friendly leader with an interest in your success is at the helm. The host will work with the lodge manager to oversee guide pairings, angler rotations, and is authorized to make decisions on behalf of the entire group.
When appropriate, the host may intervene and mix up guide rotations, angler pairings, and provide solutions if guests don’t feel the adventure is up to snuff. We just ask you to keep your expectations in check, consider the group as a whole, and be realistic with any special requests.
This is the trip you have been dreaming about. Elite guides, prime dates, and a chance to hook up with a Tarpon that just might break that 100# mark. We are hoping for anglers that are experienced, willing to be humbled, and plan to have a good time regardless of their success.
We strongly suggest you spend time casting the gear you intend to fish with, study Tarpon fishing videos, and be physically ready for the balance and casting challenges you'll incur on the bow of a Tarpon skiff.
