The multi-modulus carbon fiber blanks offer increased levels of recovery for casting with greater accuracy and control, and the subtle design touches like black anodized snake guides, laser-etched reel seats, and saltwater-grade components all work together to create a fly rod that anglers cant resist. Its available in a wide range of specialty sizes for unique applications that will not only feed a fishing habit, but may just transform it into a VICE.
Here at Red's we have found the Vice rod to be an exceptionally fast action rod. In our experiments, we have thrown a 9' 4wt with a 210 grain SA Spey Lite line and a 10' Rio Floating Tip and 9' leader for a sweet little single hand trout spey option. With that same rod, we've fished delicate spring creek browns here in Washington and used a 5wt SA MPX taper or a 5wt Rio Grand taper line, which turns the 4wt Vice into a moderate-(ish) action rod in that case. Throwing a 4wt Rio Grand would be a great option for windy day dries on the Yakima, or other western rivers, as well. Sometimes it's good to think outside the box and experiment a little.
